Understanding, Guidance, Growth: My Approach to Counselling, Coaching, and Training

Every individual has a story. Behind our emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and life choices lie experiences, relationships, beliefs, and personal struggles that influence how we understand ourselves and respond to the world around us.

Sometimes, we become so focused on solving a problem that we overlook the deeper influences contributing to it. We try to change our behavior without understanding what drives it. We attempt to manage our emotions without exploring what they may be communicating. We look for answers without fully understanding the questions we need to ask.

My approach to counseling, coaching, and training begins with a simple belief: meaningful change begins with deeper understanding.

Through a spiritually integrated psychodynamic approach, I aim to help people explore their experiences, develop self-awareness, and discover practical ways to move forward.

What is a spiritually integrated psychodynamic approach?

This approach brings together two complementary perspectives: psychodynamic understanding and spiritual integration.

The psychodynamic perspective: Understanding what lies beneath

Our present responses are not always determined by what is happening around us today. Past experiences, significant relationships, emotional patterns, and beliefs about ourselves can influence how we interpret situations and respond to difficulties.

A psychodynamic perspective encourages us to look beyond the immediate problem and explore these underlying influences.

For example, a person who repeatedly reacts with anger may initially see anger as the problem. A deeper exploration may reveal feelings of rejection, fear, helplessness, or experiences that have made it difficult to trust others.

Understanding these influences does not mean excusing harmful behavior or remaining trapped in the past. It means developing a clearer understanding of ourselves so that we can respond more consciously in the present.

When we begin to recognize our patterns, we create an opportunity to make different choices.

The spiritual perspective: Understanding meaning, values, and purpose

Human beings are more than their thoughts, emotions, and outward behavior. Many people also seek meaning, purpose, inner direction, and a sense of connection with something greater than themselves.

Spiritual integration recognizes that a person's spiritual beliefs, values, and understanding of life may be important resources in their journey towards well-being and personal growth.

For some, this may involve prayer, reflection, faith, or spiritual principles. For others, it may involve exploring personal values, purpose, responsibility, compassion, and the meaning they attach to their experiences.

Spirituality should not be imposed on anyone. It should be approached with respect for each person's beliefs, background, and individual needs.

The aim is to help people draw upon meaningful sources of strength and direction while remaining open to honest self-examination and practical action.

From understanding to change

Understanding ourselves is important, but understanding alone does not automatically transform our lives.

We may recognize a recurring pattern and still find ourselves repeating it. We may understand why a particular situation affects us and yet struggle to respond differently.

That is why my approach places importance on translating insight into action.

The process involves three interconnected elements.

Understanding

We begin by exploring the concern, identifying patterns, recognizing emotional responses, and examining the influences that may be contributing to the difficulty.

Guidance

We consider practical ways of responding to the challenge. This may involve developing emotional awareness, examining beliefs, improving communication, strengthening coping skills, or identifying more constructive choices.

Growth

We put our understanding into practice. Through reflection, consistent effort, and the development of healthier responses, we work towards greater self-awareness, personal responsibility, and meaningful change.

These are not rigid stages that everyone must follow in the same way. Each person's circumstances, needs, and pace of growth are different.

How this approach informs my work

Although the underlying philosophy remains consistent, its application differs according to the purpose of the work.

Counselling

Counselling provides an opportunity to explore personal difficulties, emotional experiences, relationships, and recurring patterns in a supportive setting. The emphasis is on understanding the concern, developing insight, and identifying appropriate ways forward.

Coaching

Coaching focuses on personal development, goals, choices, and moving forward. Greater self-awareness can help people recognize what holds them back, clarify their priorities, and take practical steps towards change.

Training and emotional health education

Training creates opportunities to learn about emotions, behavior, relationships, and the principles that support emotional well-being. Through interactive discussions, practical examples, and reflection, participants can examine familiar situations from different perspectives and consider how they might respond more constructively.

The objective is not merely to provide information. It is to encourage people to understand themselves and apply what they learn in everyday life.

A practical and compassionate philosophy

I believe that people benefit when they are encouraged to look at their difficulties with honesty, curiosity, and compassion.

Understanding a problem more deeply does not mean blaming ourselves or others. It means recognizing the influences that have shaped us while acknowledging our capacity to learn, make choices, and develop new responses.

Change may require time, practice, support, and, when appropriate, professional care. There is no single formula that works for everyone.

My role is to facilitate understanding, offer appropriate guidance, and support the process of growth in ways that respect each person's individuality.

The purpose behind my work

My work in counselling, addiction recovery, emotional health education, and personal development has reinforced the importance of looking beyond surface-level difficulties.

People need more than instructions about what they should do. They also need opportunities to understand why certain difficulties arise, how their responses develop, and what they can do differently.

This philosophy informs my work at MS Holistic Services and my efforts to make emotional health and personal growth more understandable and practical.

Whether through counselling, coaching, or training, the intention remains the same: to encourage deeper understanding, support constructive change, and help people move towards greater emotional awareness and personal growth.

Understanding. Guidance. Growth.

Because meaningful change begins when we understand ourselves more deeply.
